One minute הלכה halacha number 6, continuing from the שלחן ערוך Shulchan Aruch from yesterday, says that if a person touches their shoes when they're removing them, then they would need to wash their hands before saying דברים בקדושה devarim bekedusha, before דאווענינג davening, before potentially even learning, before saying any ברכות brachos. And the משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah explains that the reasoning of the שלחן ערוך Shulchan Aruch here is not necessarily the same as what we've been saying yesterday in the past days with בית הכסא beis hakissei, which is the רוח רעה ruach ra, the evil impure spirit, which can only be removed through water. Rather here it's because of a standpoint of נקיות nekiyus, of cleanliness. If a person's gonna touch their shoes, that's gross, you're gonna have שמוץ schmutz on your hands, you're gonna say השם Hashem's name, you're gonna learn, you're gonna דאווען daven, you shouldn't be doing that. So therefore since it's from this perspective that's not רוח רעה ruach ra, that there's more leniency, that if a person for example if you're in the middle of learning, you could just kind of scratch your scratch your hands on the table not to be ביטול תורה bitul Torah, you know wipe it off with a tissue something like that, until you can get yourself to water. However before you דאווען daven you really should be משתדל mishtadel, you should go find water and you should go do your best to go find water. Now רב שלמה זלמן Rav Shlomo Zalman says in a very famous פסק psak that if you just tie your shoes, if you touch your shoelaces, tie your shoes, that doesn't count as anything so you don't need to wash your hands, that's totally fine, that's not considered a gross part of the shoe. שכח shkoach, שכח shkoach, have a great סוכות Sukkos.
