One minute הלכה halacha number five: the שולחן ערוך Shulchan Aruch explicitly says a couple of things, that in addition to when you wake up in the morning that have a רוח רע ruach ra, an impure spirit, and you need to wash your hands with water in order to get rid of it. One of those famous things is when you exit a bathroom. Whether that means that you went into the bathroom to go to the bathroom, or you just went in the bathroom for whatever reason to go into the bathroom and when you come outside, the שולחן ערוך Shulchan Aruch seems to imply that you need to wash. Now the big question is, people are always asking: do I need to wash my hands from a כלי kli and wash three times on each side? The משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah says that there is a רוח רע ruach ra in a בית הכסא beit hakisay, an impure spirit, so you do need to wash when you go outside the bathroom. The זוהר Zohar is very מקפיד makpid that you need to wash even three times. Now, however, להלכה lehalacha, the modern פוסקים poskim say that our bathrooms have a different status than the בית הכסא beit hakisay of the past. The בית הכסא beit hakisay in the past was a more public, it was much more disgusting, so there was a much stronger רוח רע ruach ra there. Nowadays in our time, since when you flush the toilet, the צואה tzoa goes away and it's gone, and also people are going inside the bathroom to get medicine and other things, the bathroom's much more clean, then we don't need to do that. So להלכה lehalacha you don't need a כלי kli, you don't need to wash with a cup, and you don't need to do three times. You do need to wash your hands, but in order to get rid of this רוח רע ruach ra, you don't need to do three times on each hand. שכוייח shkoiyach!
