One minute הלכה halacha שיעור shiur number four continuing the הלכות halachos of waking up in the morning. The משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah asks when and where should a person wash נטילת ידים netilat yadayim in the morning when they wake up? The משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah then quotes the זוהר הקדוש Zohar HaKadosh which says that a person should not even walk four אמות amot away from his bed without washing נטילת ידים netilat yadayim because this impure spirit, this רוח רעה ruach ra'ah is still on his hands. This is where the מנהג minhag of keeping a washing station, a washing basin right next to your bed and we're going to see more about that in a second. So the משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah then says explicitly if a person has to use the bathroom, if you have to go to the bathroom you should go to the bathroom before going and washing נטילת ידים netilat yadayim because of the fact that if you hold back from using the bathroom then you're going to be over the איסור issur of בל תשקצו bal teshaktzu which is holding back from going to the bathroom. So you should go to the bathroom then wash נטילת ידים netilat yadayim after that. Some פוסקים poskim say that one's entire house is considered to be within his ד' אמות daled amot and there's this ענין inyan. So that means some פוסקים poskim would say even לכתחילה lechatchila if your sink is downstairs then that's totally fine, doesn't have to be within the four אמות amot. The אליה רבה Eliyah Rabbah says that no, it's really only within the room you're in. And now the הלכה למעשה halacha lema'aseh is that you know if you don't need to have the washing basin next to your bed, it's a nice thing to do, if you have a sink close by you should go there, either way it's fine whatever you do.
