One-minute הלכה halachah שיעור shiur number 20: The הלכות halachot of entering the שול shul for שחרית Shacharit in the morning. The משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah says that right before you enter the שול shul, whether you're still in the חצר chatzer or really just outside the שול shul, a person should pause, take a deep breath, and say the words בבית אלהים נהלך ברגש beveit Elohim nehalech beragesh—into the house of God, I'm going to enter with feeling. And you should then walk into the שול shul, and as you walk into the שול shul, you should say the words of the פסוק pasuk, ואני ברב חסדך אבוא ביתך אשתחוה אל היכל קדשך ביראתך Va'ani berov chasdecha avo veitecha eshtachaveh el heichal kodshecha beyir'atecha, and you should actually take a little bit of a bow towards the ארון קודש aron kodesh. While we know that is a snippet of the of פסוקים pesukim of מה טובו אהליך יעקב Mah Tovu ohalecha Ya'akov, right? Where בלעם Bil'am intended to curse us and ended up giving us a blessing. And so the entire text of מה טובו Mah Tovu is actually not mentioned in the משנה ברורה Mishnah Berurah, שולחן ערוך Shulchan Aruch, but we are נוהג noheg to say it according to the דרכי משה Darchei Moshe. Now, the פסקי תשובות Piskei Teshuvot quotes the אריז״ל Arizal and says that before דאווענען davening, one should actually take upon himself and accept the מצות עשה mitzvat aseh of ואהבת לרעך כמוך ve'ahavta lerei'acha kamocha, because if you have that כוונה kavanah to accept upon yourself today to love every Jew and to join together with כלל ישראל Kelal Yisrael, then your תפילות tefillot is actually joined together with כלל ישראל Kelal Yisrael, and you actually gain and give all the זכות zechut together, and your תפילות tefillot are going to go very far. יישר כח shkoach.
